Of The Pearl At The End Of The Bottomless Mire, or Drown In This Emo Drama Part I

Hi,

I decided to explore the teary depths of emo shorts. Here is the first offering. For myself, and LitWing...

The Pearl At The End Of The Bottomless Mire

He knew it was going to come to this. Right from the start, he knew. Why then, why this melancholy he’s feeling now? Could it, perhaps, be attributed to, if not expectation, hope? Hope. Those flickering ghost-lights guiding heart-sailors in the dark… seducing them towards imminent doom, leading them to dash onto the cruel jagged rocks. His ship asunder, it was all he could do not to flounder in the tumultuous coldness of her deep blue.

It was Anne who informed him of the truth (or rather, generously made him privy to the blatantly obvious). Anne, his last oblation of flotsam left miserably, halfheartedly half-floating in that bottomless mire. He could still remember her deep, hoarse monotone, an obvious departure from the usual cheery pitch, as the vital bits of auditory enlightenment filtered through the receiver. “Hey man. I’m sorry to have to say this now after getting your hopes up(aren’t they all? he mused.) , I made a mistake. She doesn’t seem interested in you after all. I’m sorry…” That signaled the expiry of his conscious involvement in the wired conversation.

One of the random cognitions amongst the myriad thoughts of her conceived during his stunned rumination was that of outlawing the use of cellular devices for the dissemination of potentially cardiac-damaging tidings. This previous one happened to be the final, crippling beat of the wave for his fragile dinghy. The one that left him estranged amidst an ocean, surrounding by the splintered corpse of his raft. Serve him right for embarking in that tub.

I know it's very short (duh! it's a short!), but I can't think of any way to ameliorate his problem without it seeming like a fairytale. And to continue otherwise would mean making him wallow in his sorrow some more. Well, I think we've made him suffer enough already eh?

Someone should PC this...
